As your Service Provider we put in place measures such as firewalls, patching, spam filters and anti-virus software to prevent any security incidents.
The most important thing to consider with maintaining a secure IT environment is that staff can play a major role in the first line of defense against malware, ransom-ware and other malicious cyber attacks. Staff should be watchful and aware of events such as your PC crashing, unusual messages appearing, your computer running slower than normal, suspicious emails and the installation of un-authorised software.
Scams
Scammers will look for ways to exploit users and this is usually performed via phishing emails. A phishing email is used to persuade people to unwittingly reveal personal details to gain access to accounts and banking information. These types of emails can be made to look very real, so it always pays to careful of the following;
- Emails that ask for personal information whether financial or account log-in details
- Opening or downloading attachments in emails from recipients you do not know
- Promotions that promise rewards.
- Emails from Banks, Financial Institutions, Australia Post or Courier companies asking for confidential information. These actions are never requested from these organisation.
- Links within emails that open a web-site that are not familiar
Telemarketing Calls
Scammers are also getting smart in exploiting users via phone calls and requesting details of mortgage accounts, electricity accounts, etc. Never provide confidential and sensitive information including usernames and passwords under no circumstances.
